Another option is to go for a dual-toned color scheme – playing with shades of one color will create an even more unique and entrancing atmosphere.

The color you choose should ultimately depend on the type of vibe you’re trying to create in your bedroom; use bold colors if you are feeling courageous while soft pastels may be preferred if you’re hoping for a relaxed, calming space.

  • How to Decorate a Bedroom With Slanted Walls

How to Decorate a Bedroom With Slanted Walls

If you are searching for a house and see an ad that says “bedroom with vaulted cozy ceilings” this generally means that the room can be quite cramped and difficult to decorate!

Slanted walls are a challenge for interior design. But spaces with vaulted ceilings can turn out to be the most charming places in a home, it all depends on good planning.

In old and traditional homes, you will find rooms with this incredible charm and potential, waiting to be filled with creative design solutions. In this post, we will bring you some of these solutions:

    [view_toc]

    1. LOWER FURNITURE

lower furniture in the bedroom with slanted walls

You have to avoid the sensation of being swallowed by the slanted walls closing up above you in a bedroom, and there is only one way to do it: right color paint and low furniture. This is the perfect combo for a slanted walls bedroom.

You cannot place tall cabinets or bulky furniture in slanted wall spaces. They will make the room feel oppressive and crowded. You want harmony and a sense of amplitude, so go for lower furniture.

Have custom cabinetry made, if you can afford it. Otherwise, there are several options in the market for sleek, straight furniture that will fit perfectly in a space like this.

    2. A-FRAME BEDROOM

A-frame decorated in the bedroom with slanted walls

The classic décor for this type of ceiling is to place the bed in the middle of the vaulted walls so that the whole room will look more spacious. But there are some creative ways to place beds perpendicular to the walls. This may be an option for the kids’ room.

Choosing the right colors for the space is key, so you don’t feel closed in by the slanted roofline. Go for light tones everywhere. Light walls, floors, and wood, so that the space does not feel overwhelmed by the heavy tones and furniture. Bedding and décor pieces should follow the same light pattern, to make the space feel larger and brighter.

    3. COLOR IS WHAT WILL DEFINE THE SPACE

Choose the right colors for the walls. Some people do not care for white walls – some even call it a “psychiatric ward” style… but in a slanted-wall bedroom, the light colors will work in your favor. You can be a little (just a little) bold and use a slightly darker tone on the straight part of the wall, but paint the slanted part white.

This will make the room visually larger, without adding a claustrophobic feel that dark colors would certainly bring. On the contrary, it will create an interesting and eye-catching detail, especially if the walls are not too steep. You can also choose to cover the straight part of the walls with light wooden panels or beadboard.

Wallpapers with bold patterns are the least suitable option for this type of room. Dark colors on slanted walls make the room feel like a dungeon and do not contribute to setting the mood you want in a bedroom, which is a relaxing, comforting space.

Should you like to add some texture to the ceiling, you can install a mural with light colors, such as stars or clouds over a light blue sky. This will bring an interesting and peaceful touch to the space over your bed.

    4. LIGHT FURNITURE IS A MUST

light furniture in the bedroom with slanted walls

The easiest way to make a slanted wall bedroom feel bigger is with light furniture. Choose off-whites, beiges, and soft yellows for bedding and furnishes, along with white furniture or light wood furniture. If the space has dark floors, decorate it with a light rug.

    5. WALLPAPER

wallpaper in the bedroom with slanted walls

Wallpapers are risky, but worth it, depending on your décor style. For a kid’s room, vibrant wallpaper with a fun design like clouds or robots may be an option. You can leave the colors to the wallpaper and keep white or light furniture in the rest of the room. Create a more classic and subtle look by using striped wallpaper in shades similar to the rest of the walls.

    6. VINYL STICKERS

vinyl sticker in the bedroom with slanted walls

You can add your personal touch to the walls with vinyl stickers if you do not want to commit to painting and wallpapers. This works very well for teenagers’ and kids’ bedrooms. They can apply their own style to the décor, and it is not a huge compromise, since these stickers are not permanent.

Just wipe the wall with a damp cloth, let it dry, remove the adhesive film and press it against the wall. If you get air bubbles, smooth it out with a thin, flat object like a credit card.

    7. GLAMOUR AND DRAMA

classic style bedroom with slanted walls

If your style is classic, install a dramatic chandelier in the center of the room. This will catch the eye of anyone who enters the space and will be the feature piece of the décor. Just think about the proportions as it will stand in the middle of slanted walls.

    8. LOW SHELVING

low shelving in the bedroom with slanted walls

Installing shelving can be tricky in a slanted wall bedroom. They can make the space feel cramped if the square footage is not too big. So, it’s all a matter of how high your straight walls go. Opt for floating shelves if the straight walls are high enough or go for low bookshelves instead.

    9. LESS IS MORE

    minimalist bedroom with slanted walls

The minimalist style may be the perfect style for a slanted walls bedroom. The less furniture you have, the less cramped the space looks.  Opt for functional, sleek lines furniture. Choose an ottoman or a chaise longue, instead of bulky armchairs.

Avoid tall headboards and use light colors for the bedding and pillows. Tall armoires are incredibly charming but may not be a perfect fit for this kind of space.

    10. YOUR ROOM, YOUR SANCTUARY

    bedroom with slanted walls

No matter the size or the challenges the space presents, your room must carry your signature and reflect who you are. Use these tips to choose décor options that speak to your heart, but avoid common mistakes like overwhelming the space with excessive décor and bold colors. Bring your personal touch with artwork here and there and those very special framed memories one can’t live without.

Soften the space with some flowers, even a small vase makes a difference. And make it a comfy, soothing place you are happy to go back to at the end of every day.

Remember to use glow-in-the-dark paint for stars, adding a magical element that comes to life at night, mimicking a real night sky.

Furniture in dark hues or metallic finishes can mimic the mystery of space, while bed linens and curtains with starry patterns tie the theme together, making bedtime an exciting journey into the galaxy.

    4. Kid-Friendly Decor Crafts

The kids’ room is the perfect place for a DIY project. Why not buy non-toxic paint and let your kids add their own decoration to one of the walls. Or you could have them paint pictures that you frame and hang as wall art.

    5. Light Up Your Space

You don’t have to have electrical experience to add your own custom lighting to your bedroom. Teen girls prove this by adding decorative fairy or neon signs to their walls. Think about the look you are going for in your bedroom, then look for lighting that complements that look.

    6. Bedside Art Display

Transform the space above your bed into a focal point with contemporary wall art. Choose pieces that reflect your personal style or color scheme of the room.

Pay attention to the scale of the artwork relative to your bed; larger beds like king or queen sizes can handle bigger or multiple pieces, while a single, striking piece works well above smaller beds.

When hanging, ensure the center of the artwork is at eye level and the width doesn’t exceed the bed, creating a balanced and visually appealing wall space.

    7. Chic Floating Shelves

Adding shelves is a simple home improvement project that maximizes your available space and storage. They are versatile, making it easy to find the right setup for your bedroom walls. You could have a single shelf that encircles the top of the room.

This is perfect for a small room because it’s tucked up and out of the way. You could line books, shoe storage boxes, purses, or anything else on this long floating shelf. You could arrange several floating shelves on a single wall for large rooms. A long floating shelf over your bed can be a convenient storage space and enhance the look of your bed.

    8. Small Space, Big Impact

To make the most of your small bedroom, look for small bedroom ideas that show you how to arrange the furniture. The right arrangement can make a space feel more comfortable and less cramped. Place the bed on the longest wall or opposite the door.

    9. Wallpapers that Wow

One of the most common DIY ideas is to add patterned wallpaper to create an accent wall. There are plenty of tutorials online to show you how easy it is to hang modern wallpaper. There are even peel and stick removable wallpaper options.

If you have a small space, using wallpaper may not give you the effect you’re going for. Instead, consider using washi tape. There are plenty of DIY bedroom decor ideas that can show you how to create a custom design with these decorative tapes.

    10. Crate Shelf Creativity

Repurpose wooden crates into versatile floor shelves, a practical yet stylish storage solution. Start by sanding down the crates to smooth out rough edges, then paint or stain them in a color that complements your bedroom’s décor.

You can stack these crates on their sides for an easy-to-access storage system, perfect for books, plants, or decorative items.

Alternatively, use them as unique nightstands or a coffee table, adding a rustic charm to your room. Placing these crates near a window can also create a cozy reading nook, especially when combined with a comfortable cushion and soft lighting.

    11. Autumn Bedroom Ambiance

Embrace the serene ambiance of autumn in your bedroom. Begin by focusing on natural light; use sheer, light-draped curtains to allow sunlight to filter through, warming up the space.

Introduce textures like raw wood in furniture or accessories to bring an earthy, grounded feeling. For color, draw inspiration from fall leaves: think warm oranges, deep reds, and soothing browns. Accentuate these hues in throw pillows, blankets, and area rugs.

DIY bedroom decor for the fall season

Decorate with a small branch featuring hanging ornaments, like dried leaves or wooden charms, and use lettering in natural materials for a personalized touch.

    12. Fairy Light Headboard Charm

Create a whimsical atmosphere in your bedroom by adorning your headboard with fairy lights. Select lights with a warm tone to add a cozy, inviting glow. Drape them over the headboard in a loose, cascading manner for a relaxed, enchanting effect.

    Fairy lights on the headboard

If you have a slatted headboard, weave the lights through the slats for an integrated look. For solid headboards, use small, clear adhesive hooks to position the lights in your desired pattern.

    13. Rustic Pallet Bed DIY

Design a unique, low-profile bed frame using wooden pallets. This DIY project not only adds a rustic charm to your bedroom but also allows for customization in size and height.

Start by selecting pallets in good condition and sand them thoroughly to avoid splinters. You can leave the wood in its natural state for a more rustic look, or paint it to match your room’s décor.

Arrange the pallets on the floor, securing them together for stability. Add a mattress on top, and consider installing castor wheels for mobility and a modern touch.

    14. Ivy Rope Room Splitter

Create a natural, bohemian-inspired room divider with rope and ivy. Secure a series of hooks or a wooden dowel to the ceiling, evenly spaced. Hang lengths of sturdy rope from these points, creating a curtain-like divider.

Intertwine artificial or live ivy vines through the ropes for a green, lush appearance.

The beauty of this divider lies in its versatility and the soft, organic texture it adds to the space. It’s perfect for adding a touch of nature while maintaining an airy, open feel in the room.

    15. Personalized Wall Murals

Personalize your bedroom with a DIY wall mural, an artistic expression that transforms your space. Choose a design that resonates with your style: it could be floral theme, abstract shapes, or a geometric pattern.

    Bedroom floral mural

Start by sketching your design on the wall with a pencil, considering the scale and proportion relative to your room. Select paints in a color palette that complements your existing décor. Acrylics or wall paints work well for their durability and vibrant colors.

For a professional finish, use painter’s tape to create clean lines, especially for geometric designs. If you’re not confident in your artistic skills, consider using stencils or a projector to trace the design.

    16. Macrame Art Mastery

Elevate your bedroom’s aesthetic with a handmade macrame wall hanging. This craft involves knotting cords or string in patterns to create a textural, bohemian-inspired piece.

Choose a cord color that harmonizes with your room’s palette. You can add beads or incorporate different knotting techniques for added interest.

    DIY macrame

Hang your macrame above the bed as an alternative to traditional headboards or artwork. It brings a sense of calm and handcrafted warmth to the space, making it more inviting and personalized. Plus, the process of creating macrame can be a relaxing and rewarding DIY project in itself.

    17. DIY Ladder Display Shelf

Convert an old ladder into a charming display shelf with minimal effort. Sand and paint or varnish the ladder to fit your bedroom’s aesthetic.

Position it against a wall, and use the rungs to display items like small plants, photo frames, or books. This adds vertical interest to your space and is a creative way to show off your favorite objects.

    DIY ladder display shelf

The rustic look of a ladder shelf pairs well with various décor styles, from farmhouse to contemporary, providing functional storage and a decorative touch.

    18. Bedroom Art Framing

Create your own framed wall art by printing out abstract designs or photographs that resonate with your personal taste. Select frames that complement both the art and your room’s décor. Mix and match frame sizes and styles for an eclectic gallery wall, or keep them uniform for a more cohesive look.

    Framed wall art for bedroom

When hanging, remember the rule of thirds for a balanced arrangement and consider the wall space available. DIY framed art allows for a custom, budget-friendly way to adorn your walls and add a touch of sophistication to your bedroom.

    19. Simple Paint Transformation

Refresh your bedroom with a simple paint project. Choose a color that calms or inspires you, keeping in mind the size of the room and the amount of natural light it receives. Lighter colors can make a small room feel larger and more open, while darker hues create a cozy, intimate atmosphere.

Consider painting just one accent wall for a pop of color, or use techniques like sponging or stenciling for added texture and interest. A fresh coat of paint is an inexpensive yet effective way to transform the overall feel of your bedroom.

    20. Plant Life Bedroom Boost

Incorporate greenery into your bedroom to create a tranquil and healthy environment. Plants like snake plant, spider plant, and peace lily are excellent choices as they purify the air and require minimal maintenance.

Place them in areas that receive natural light, but be mindful of their specific light requirements.

Arrange smaller plants on shelves or nightstands, and consider larger ones in corners or beside furniture for balance. Adding plants not only brings a burst of nature indoors but also has been shown to improve mood and reduce stress, making them a perfect addition to any bedroom.

    23 Apartment Bedroom Ideas

Your bedroom is your sanctuary. Choose a decoration style that reflects your personality, and colors and patterns you actually like and feel comfortable with, rather than adopting interior design rules that don’t speak to your heart.

Whether you prefer a more informal look or a classic and traditional style, it takes only a few touches here and there to transform a basic room into a cozy, warm, and welcoming space for you to relax after a long day of work and activities.

In this post, we will share some inspiring and creative apartment bedroom ideas for you to choose a décor that is better suited for your lifestyle… and pocket!

    [view_toc]

    1. Boho

People say that there are no rules when it comes to boho décor. It may be the best option for modern, unconventional, and free spirits who have an eclectic taste and appreciate cultural diversity.

If, on one hand, bohemian style gives you the freedom to experiment with colors, patterns, and materials, on the other hand, the room might feel cramped and with no personality at all if you overdo it.

There is no “right” color for boho design. You may use browns, grays, or earthy tones as a base color palette, but accentuate with bold colors like purple, tangerine, red, or magenta. Use dyed fabrics and don’t be afraid to mix patterns from a variety of references, such as Indian, Andean, or Asian, for example.

Explore tapestries on the walls, wool or silk throws on top of furniture, as well as crochet and knit bed runners. Remember, boho style is very personal and relaxed, and you can have statement pieces that best reflect your personality.

    2. Kid’s Room in an Apartment

When it comes to decorating your kid’s room in an apartment, creativity is key. One of the main ways to make an apartment bedroom kid-friendly and fun is with stuffed toys – they make a great addition to any kid’s room and also act as a cute reminder of childhood days.

Additionally, motivational posters can be hung around the walls for inspiring messages, such as “Dream big, little one.” For a more unique touch, add colorful rugs, which can instantly brighten up any room. With these simple but effective ideas, your kid will love their new apartment bedroom!

    3. Blue

Transforming your apartment bedroom into a refreshing blue paradise can be an extremely creative and exciting project. Start with blue linen and pillows, add home decor with additional shades of blue, and keep the walls white to allow the blue theme to stand out.

Finally, hang wall art or an image of a white sandy beach with blue skies and cool blue waters for a stunning final touch. With white furniture, you can incorporate blue accents anywhere to top off your blue paradise.

    4. Green and Gold

Decorating an apartment bedroom doesn’t have to be difficult or time-consuming. One of the trendiest bedroom updates is to pair the green colors of summer with the gold hues of autumn. You can have an accent wall in a shade of green as the focal point. Decorate it with wall art that is predominantly green, so your room will feel more vibrant, calming, and alive.

To complement this green wall, use warm gold tones for furniture pieces like an ottoman and the rug that covers the entire floor. Keep the other walls in neutral shades and bring in off-white woven baskets to create a balance of colors. Not only will this color palette stand out in any apartment bedroom design, but it is also easy and cost-effective!

    5. Gray

Brighten up your apartment bedroom with gray tones that give a modern twist. Paint the walls light gray to give the room an aura of understated sophistication. A metal bed frame provides modern contrast, and gray flooring or carpet adds elegance to the equation.

To liven things up, choose printed gray bedsheets and pillowcases instead of plain gray linen. You can also have fun with your bathroom walls by choosing striking gray patterns. This setup is sure to give your bedroom a contemporary yet cozy vibe.

    6. Cozy

With the right elements, it’s easy to make a cozy and restful bedroom to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Start with a green accent wall with photos of plants; this will remind you of the natural world outside and the connections nature has to bring.

Bring in a couple of plants, too; they create oxygen and invite a sense of life into the room. To finish off, opt for wood furniture and cool gray flooring – shades that go well together and help keep the energy light. With these few essential pieces, you’ll create an inspiring, beautiful bedroom in your apartment.

    7. Light and Airy

Give your apartment bedroom a light, airy feeling by building a high ceiling and embracing natural light. Choose wooden furniture, fixtures, and a large wooden door to exude warmth. A dark gray rug will contrast the glossy white flooring and help pull the room together, while a vibrant blue accent wall adds visual interest.

Let this be your sanctuary; choose accessories that give off calming vibes and provide comfort as you drift off to sleep in style. Have fun creating an inviting atmosphere that you’ll love coming home to!

    8. Resort Style

Dreaming of a resort-style bedroom in your apartment? You can have that! Start with large accordion windows in your bathtub area for a touch of luxury. When opened, your room will seem bigger, and you won’t have to feel cramped while soaking in a warm bath.

Keep the rest of the room in neutral colors, but you can add a pop of vibrant blue to your pillows if you want. With some creativity and the right pieces of furniture and decoration, you can have the perfect apartment bedroom of your dreams. Go for it!

    9. Minimalist/Small Spaces

Simplicity and functionality, that’s what minimalist style is all about. Sleek, clean-lined furniture with neutral color palettes and minimal accessories are characteristic of this popular decoration style.

In minimalist style, less is more. Clean, uncluttered spaces with the bare essentials, simple lines, and no excessive décor are the core elements of minimalist decoration.

    10. Modern

Very similar to minimalist design, the modern style is also defined by clean lines and sleek furnishings with few accessories.

Neutral or earthy colors, natural materials, and steel, chrome or glass accessories complement the modern design.

    11. Studio

In studio apartments, the bedroom is integrated with the rest of the space, so you have to keep your room as functional as possible to take maximum advantage of the small space.

It should also be a practical space, easy to keep tidy and presentable in case you have unexpected visitors. Try not to overwhelm the room with too many throw pillows, excessive décor pieces, or bulky furniture that make the space feel cramped.

Choose functional pieces instead, such as multipurpose furniture that double as storage, and explore the wall space with shelving, to save precious floor space. You can choose a Murphy bed or a platform bed with plenty of storage underneath so the room does not feel cluttered with stuff lying around.

5 Tropical Bedroom Ideas and Designs

Whether you have a summer house on the beach or a loft in the city, a tropical décor will make you feel like every day is a sunny day!

Tropical décor is joyful, colorful, and yet cozy and very trendy. You can use your creativity to play with patterns and textures, and explore natural fibers and organic materials.

In this post, we will give you some ideas for tropical bedroom design and decoration, so that you feel inspired to make a total makeover in your bedroom, to transform it into a 5-star hotel suite.

    [view_toc]

    1. Dive into Tropical Beach-Inspired Bedrooms

If you want that relaxing beachy look in your bedroom, explore pastel colors for that sandy beach vibe, and play with accent colors and textures, from the serene blue of the sea to the colorful tones of green of the tropical gardens.

Natural fabrics like cotton, linen, and bamboo will give a tropical feel to the room. Use natural or reclaimed wood and bamboo, and explore natural fabrics like cotton and linen.

These natural materials can be mixed up with silk for a soft touch. Silk is a great décor piece in cushions or sofa scarves. A silk bedspread with a tropical motif over an organic cotton duvet cover is also a good call.

For a stylish and unique space, think of a wall mural with foliage motifs. They are simply astonishing!  Or you can have an accent wall with a palm leaf motif instead, or framed botanical prints. A canopy bed with pure linen and silk curtain will make you feel like in a paradisiac tropical island.

    2. Transform Kids’ Rooms with Jungle Magic

What kid doesn’t love animals? You can choose a jungle-themed bedroom, so your little ones will feel they’re in a tropical rainforest!

If you want urban jungle décor, avoid synthetic materials, and choose natural, organic materials like wicker and bamboo. Make sure you have at least one feature wall, with jungle motifs (either a mural, wallpaper, or framed jungle prints).

Use wood tones, yellows, and greens to bring color to the bedroom, and fill the room with their stuffed animals to make the space feel joyful and cozy. Let your kids’ creativity run free with a chalkboard or drawing table, so their art will become part of the décor!

Don’t forget to add a fake fur bedspread, and some real or fake potted plants and foliage. Sisal rugs are another great idea for that tropical atmosphere you look for in a jungle-themed bedroom.

See more kids bedroom ideas here.

    3. Elevate Elegance with Tropical Touches

Adding tropical accents to elegant decor can be like a breath of fresh air. Look for pieces that use tropical materials in the construction of elegant pieces. This could be the use of drift or mango wood to make the furniture or chandelier. Or perhaps linen is used to upholster the headboard or bench.

    4. Embrace Bohemian Meets Tropical Vibes

Using bohemian and tropical pieces together creates a beautiful blended design aesthetic. Focus on handmade pieces that add a worldly touch to your space. A hand-woven light shade made from beach grasses can add texture to the room. Other good options are a hand-woven rug, a one-of-a-kind painting of tropical leaves, or pillows using ocean blues.

    5. Choose Wall Decor that Whispers Tropics

In tropical-inspired design, the walls make all the difference. Do not underestimate the impact of a feature wall. Murals with greenery motifs set the tone for a true tropical décor.

You can choose removable wallpaper instead, or fill up a wall with framed art and make it the focal point of the décor.

Remember that green is not the only color to use in a tropical-style bedroom wall. You can choose a soft tone for the walls, with foliage, beach, or sea motifs, as shown in some of the pictures in this post.

    11 Basement Bedroom Ideas

If you have an unused basement, consider transforming it into a cozy guestroom. Or maybe your teenage kid would like a bigger space to sleep and hang out with friends.

Here are some ideas for cool basement bedrooms!

    [view_toc]

    1. Budget-Friendly Basement Remodeling Essentials

There are numerous ways to make a budget-friendly remodel in your basement and transform it into a safe and pleasant livable space. The first thing you need to do is seal the walls. Make sure you prevent water leaks that can develop into mold, and apply specialized paints to plug all the holes.

It is also important to ensure proper ventilation and provide heating as well. Once you cover the basics, you can think of the décor. There are many affordable options, and we will give you some tips and decorating ideas below.

    2. Cost-Effective Carpeting Choices for Basements

If you do not want to spend too much money on flooring, carpets are the solution. If you choose to carpet the whole room, remember to choose a waterproof basement carpet pad to protect your carpet. Carpet padding is a way to make your carpet last longer.

Since basements are frequently susceptible to moisture, you may choose to lay a permeable remnant carpet, instead of installing a wall-to-wall carpet. The advantage is that it comes out for outdoor cleaning and airing, which is something you should do at least once a year.

You can have large rugs that cover a great part of the room and make a cold space feel warmer and welcoming. Wool is the best choice for basement rugs, because of its lanolin-coated fibers.

Synthetic fibers are also a good call, because of their “breathable” quality. Nylon carpets may not be the best option, because even though they are durable, they are not moisture and stain resistant.

    3. Transforming a Basement with Decorative Touches and Functional Furniture

From rustic to classic, there are many affordable ways to furnish a basement bedroom to give it a cozy vibe. Sofa beds are a great option in case your basement bedroom is a spare room or even a man cave, that functions occasionally as a guest bedroom.

Just remember to let light into the room and brighten it up with mirrors.

Just like in any space, decorating pieces make the difference: wall sconces, bedding, pillows, nice pictures on the wall, these are all décor elements that make a huge difference in transforming a cold space into a cozy, personalized room.

    4. Comfortable and Bright Basement Guest Room

When it comes to guest bedrooms, you should consider some essential elements to make your guest as comfortable as possible. Make sure you have some hanging space, a mirror, some storage, and a nightstand with a lamp for night reading. If there’s enough room, it’s ideal to have nightstands on both sides of the bed.

Since basement bedrooms tend to have smaller windows and low ceilings, maybe the best way to go is neutral tones, with some accent pieces to add that pop of color and brighten up the space.

    5. Embracing Minimalism: Sophisticated Basement Bedroom Décor

You can’t go wrong with minimalist décor style. Simplicity and clean lines can be very sophisticated, with a few accent color items to complement the monochromatic palette, which is characteristic of minimalist designs.

It is important to create an uncluttered space, so think of storage solutions for your specific needs, and explore different patterns for finishes, prioritizing quality over quantity.

    6. Sleek and Functional Modern Basement Bedroom

When it comes to modern design, you can have a neutral wall color paint, with one accent wall in different colors and textures. Choose simple, sleek line furniture for the headboards, dressers, and nightstands.

In modern design, less is more. Don’t overwhelm the space with furniture and decoration pieces. Keep it simple and extremely functional, with enough storage space to allow for a clutter-free ambiance.

    7. Bold Colors and Neutral Accents for a Vibrant Basement Bedroom

Why not use bold colors for your basement bedroom walls? You can balance with neutral-tone rugs and sleek furniture, with neutral finishes such as bedding and pillows.

When it comes to basement painting, you may want to take a few measures to prevent moisture or possible leak damage. Consider applying one or two coats of basement sealer. In addition to applying a masonry waterproof product, choose high-quality waterproof paint.

    8. Creating a Compact and Organized Basement Bedroom

Small spaces can be cozy if you choose the right color and furniture. Stick to the essentials: the bed, a side table with light, some hanging space, and, if possible, a small seating area.

Remember that the smaller the space, the more you need to keep things tidy and organized. Make sure you have room for storage, to keep it free from clutter.

    9. Cozy Finished Space in Your Unfinished Basement

It is possible to make a cozy space in an unfinished basement. Just make sure to finish your walls properly to avoid moisture, leaks, or excessive cold in the winter. First, make sure you have proper insulation. Then, seal cracks and gaps, and make sure there are no leaks.

Provide enough ventilation for constant natural airflow. You can also consider an HVAC or HRV system, to remove moisture and provide fresh air. For chilly basements, radiant heaters are a good option. They can be installed below the floor or along baseboards.

Space heaters are also an affordable solution, providing they are certified and meet safety requirements. Look for safety features, such as an overheat sensor. If you want to leave them on overnight, make sure to plug them directly into an outlet, and keep a safe distance of at least three feet from any combustibles.

    10. Elevating Your Basement Bedroom with Striking Accent Walls

Accent walls are a great focal point in any space. Even with simple furniture and all-white bedding, an accent wall makes all the difference!

The options are countless: Wallpaper, artwork, tiles, vertical gardens, tapestry, wall panels with LED lights, just to mention a few.

    11. Creating a Serene Sanctuary: All-White Basement Bedroom

Your bedroom is your sanctuary. White is the perfect color if you want a serene, calm look.

Even if keeping your walls and furniture all-white, you can let your imagination and creativity run free with some accent pieces. You can have a dash of color with pillows and bedding or add some natural wood furniture for a nice contrast.

With these tips, we are sure you will have a cozy and safe basement bedroom. Make sure to come back for more!

  • 15 Tips and Ideas for Designing a Teen’s Bedroom

15 Tips and Ideas for Designing a Teen’s Bedroom

If interior design is your passion, giving up control of even one room in your home can be hard! So it’s super common for teens and parents to butt heads when it comes to decorating the former’s bedrooms.

One of the best things you can do is work with your teenager to incorporate their personality and style into a space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Check out these teen bedroom ideas for inspiration you both will love!

    [view_toc]

    1. Transform Your Attic into the Teen Bedroom

Most teens would jump at the chance to call an attic bedroom their own. And many parents are keen on the idea as well!

If your home’s architecture allows, an attic bedroom is a wonderful way to bridge the gap between childhood and teenage independence.

Basic necessities aside, decorating a teen room in an attic isn’t much different from any other. Be sure to prioritize lighting — don’t take the room’s windows for granted. Since few attics feature separate closets, you’ll also want to invest in plenty of storage-boosting furniture.

    2. Boho-Chic: The Perfect Teen Bedroom Aesthetic

While Bohemian decor has made its way into the mainstream design world, it’s still a favorite among teens and young adults. Actually, Boho-inspired decor is an excellent choice for teen bedrooms precisely for that reason.

A Bohemian bedroom melds the whimsy of a child’s space with the more mature aesthetic many teenagers are looking for. So this style is extremely easy to adapt over the years as your teen’s personal style morphs and matures.

Plus, there’s no need to redesign your teen’s bedroom from scratch. Existing furniture can be seamlessly integrated alongside more Bohemian elements like pillows and wall decor.

    3. Design a Teen Boy’s Personal Haven

Stereotypically, teen boys care little about their bedroom decor. But there’s a good chance it’s because they don’t know where to start creating a space that feels like their own.

Encourage your teen to display their most cherished items as decor — jerseys, instruments, and sports memorabilia are all great examples. Take the time to frame posters and similar items (no matter how cheap) for a more polished aesthetic.

As far as color is concerned, neutrals are always a safe bet. Dark shades of blue, green, and gray are also popular choices for teen boys’ walls, bedding, and pillows.

    4. Elevate Your Teenager’s Bedroom with the Right Color Scheme

Since teens’ interests notoriously change at the drop of a hat, many parents are hesitant to invest in a dedicated color scheme for their bedrooms.

Color is the backbone of any good design. If you’re concerned about committing to a bold color scheme, there are many ways to reach a compromise!

Accent walls are a way to bring color to a space without painting the entire room. Peel-and-stick wallpaper is another awesome choice that comes in practically every color and pattern imaginable. Use an area rug for the floor and accent pillows to tie in the bedding.

    5. Create a Modern Teen Room Reflecting Unique Personality

Modern decor is an excellent way to curate your teen’s bedroom ideas without stealing their creative outlet.

Emphasize furniture and decor that serve a purpose. Ideally, everything in a teen room should be both functional and aesthetically pleasing at the same time. The one exception to this rule is wall art.

This is also a wonderful opportunity to teach key organization skills. Map out your teen’s storage needs — it’s important to set them up for success by providing ample space! — and incorporate them into the final design.

    6. Design a Cozy Bedroom with Dark Colors

Your teen’s bedroom may be the only space they can truly call their own. And a dark color palette is a great way to make that space feel cozy and private.

Teen bedroom with dark color palette

Keep in mind that dark does not automatically equal black. Navy blue, gray, and many other colors can be used for a more subdued effect.

Ramp up the coziness factor with multiple ambient light sources throughout the room — focus on areas that will be used for studying or other tasks. Integrated LEDs can also be used to great effect in this way!

    7. Enhance Your Teen’s Bedroom with a Daybed

In many ways, your teen’s room may function more like a studio apartment than a regular old bedroom. So why not lean into that reality with a design that accommodates hanging out alone or with others?

A day bed is the perfect alternative to a traditional bed frame if you’re looking to add versatility to your teen’s bedroom. Of course, you should still invest in a high-quality mattress and bedding.

Pair the day bed with functional furniture like a side table or ottoman. This bedroom layout can also make it possible to include a dedicated study area.

    8. Incorporate a Teen Desk into Bedroom Design

Teens are adaptable, and won’t hesitate to blow dry their hair or do homework while sitting on the floor. Including a desk in your teen’s bedroom design will ensure they have a dedicated spot to complete these day-to-day tasks.

To save floor space, opt for a slim floating desk or one that is built into any existing piece of furniture.

Skip the bulky office chair in favor of a compact chair that can be slid under the desk when not in use. Use shelves on the wall above for extra storage space and to display decor.

    9. Stylish Teen Girl’s Bedroom with a Feminine Touch

Your teen girl may have outgrown princesses and tiaras but that doesn’t mean she’s ready to ditch girly decor altogether.

    Stylish teen girls bedroom

One of the easiest ways to make a teen girl’s bedroom feel feminine is with your choice of colors. Despite what many believe, pink can 100% be used in mature interior design! It’s all about the particular shades you choose.

Soft textiles and decor are a must for the average teen girl’s space. Fill design gaps with florals or lush greenery.

    10. Go with the Budget-Friendly Industrial Decor

Industrial decor is trendy, accessible, and loved by all genders and ages. It is the perfect design aesthetic for any teenager eager to show off their more mature tastes.

Since industrial decor is all about the details, it’s a godsend for those looking to redecorate a teenage bedroom on a budget. In many cases, all it takes is a new light fixture and a coat of paint to give a space an industrial edge.

While a teen’s bedroom is unlikely to include exposed plumbing or ductwork, you can mimic the look with metal furniture and decor.

    11. Consider Adding a Loft Bed

Spatial creativity is a must in any type of room design. But especially so in a multi-use space like a teen bedroom.

Lofted beds are commonplace in shared bedrooms — there’s no better way to fit two mattresses in a small space. However, a lofted bed can also be a great way to free up floor space for a desk, seating area, and more.

Since lofted beds tend to conjure images of children’s bunk beds, you should focus on keeping the rest of the room relatively mature. This will ensure your teen’s bedroom still feels age-appropriate.

    12. Embrace Neutral Tones in Bedroom Design

It can be hard to watch our teens ditch their childhood decor in favor of a more subdued aesthetic. But it’s still incredibly important to support these changes as they occur.

Neutral shades might seem like an odd choice for a teen room. Yet the versatility of this color palette is unmatched.

If your teen prefers the look of all-neutral decor, that’s totally fine. A neutral color scheme leaves plenty of room to play around with bold prints, textures, and materials.

    13. Create a Scandinavian Inspired Bedroom

Scandinavian decor is an offshoot of modern design that you’re surely familiar with even if you don’t recognize the terminology!

If your teen wants to adapt this trend to their own space, start with a bright and airy color scheme. Fill the room with warm neutrals or go bold with a black-and-white color scheme.

While Scandinavian decor features the same simplicity and angular profiles as other modern styles, it stands apart in several ways. Most notably, Scandinavian living spaces are filled with organic materials like wood, stone, and wicker.

    14. Go Simple with the Shared Room Design

In many homes, giving each teen their own room just isn’t possible. Efficient design is crucial to maintaining a sense of independence (and keeping the peace between siblings!).

Place the beds as far apart as the floor plan permits. Lofted beds are a great way to add separation and privacy without eating up valuable floor space.

Since it can be hard for two teens to agree on an aesthetic, keep the furniture and walls relatively simple. The inhabitants can then add a personal touch with smaller pieces of decor on each side of the room.

    15. Arrange a Compact Teen Bedroom for Space Saving

Chances are, you’re not going to give up the master bedroom to your teenager. So making the most out of a fairly small bedroom is a top priority.

Some space-saving teen bedroom ideas are extremely straightforward. For example, a Murphy bed can be used to essentially double the functionality of a single room.

Investing in furniture with built-in storage can also save a ton of space. With the right under-bed cabinets or drawers, you could completely eliminate the need for a separate dresser.

“In a modern loft, you can’t just fill a space with furniture. Each piece has to be perfect.”  –  Nate Berkus

When you run out of space in your home or apartment, it’s time to look at using your vertical space. One of the best ways to use this often unused space is to lift one of the biggest pieces of furniture.

A lofted bed raises your sleeping space and gives you access to the floor space underneath. It can also make it possible to have two beds in a single bedroom. Before deciding that bunk beds are just for children, consider the modern and mature versions.

  • How Tall Should a Nightstand Be?

How Tall Should a Nightstand Be?

You just bought a brand-new king-size bed and are laying on your new mattress, enjoying the increased amount of space. You reach over to your bedside table to turn off the light and realize that you are now reaching down instead of out or up. Getting your glass of water is now a precarious experience as your hand drops, and you hope your aim is good and the glass hits the tabletop and not the floor. Unfortunately, your bedside tables are now too short for your new bed frame.

Learn about proper nightstand height before you buy your next pair of nightstands so that you can buy the right furniture for your new bed.

How Tall Should a Nightstand Be?

The short answer is that the top of the nightstand should be level with the top of your mattress. It could also be two to four inches taller than the mattress and still look nice and be comfortable to use.

The average height of a mattress in a bed frame is about 25 inches from the floor. This means that most commercially produced nightstands are 24 to 28 inches in table height.

How to Measure for Your Nightstand

If you are ready to buy a new nightstand or two for your bedroom, the first step is to take some measurements. This will help you narrow down the interior design ideas that you like to the ones that will actually work in your room.

    Height

Stand next to your bed and measure the height of your mattress as it sits on the bed frame. Low platform beds tend to have shorter measurements than canopy beds that tend to be some of the tallest. For example, the lowest platform beds can be around 18 inches in height. In contrast, some canopy beds are as high as 36 inches.

    Depth and Width

It is not enough to just know the right height to look for. You also need to think about the depth and width of your new nightstand. If you want to have more than just a nightstand lamp on the tabletop, then you will need a larger nightstand. It is also smart to scale the size of the nightstand to the size of the bed. For example, a large California king mattress in a stately master bedroom might look strange with a small and minimalist designed nightstand table. However, be careful not to choose a nightstand that is too deep. If it is more than 24 inches deep, you risk bumping into it every time you get in and out of bed.

A common trend is to choose mismatched nightstands for the left and right sides of the bed. To make this trend work, you need to choose nightstands of a similar size and scale. You want them to be mismatched but still visually balanced.

    Why Choose a Taller Nightstand?

It is easier for someone to reach out and up when lying in bed than it is to reach out and down. So if you fall in love with a tall nightstand, you may still be able to use it with your bedroom furniture. You also have to bend over less when standing at a tall nightstand, making it more convenient and comfortable to use when not in bed.

    Wooden nightstand in bedroom

Can Nightstands Be Taller Than the Windowsill?

Some bedroom layouts may require you to place your nightstand in front of a window. For the best look, choose a nightstand that sits just below the window or at the windowsill height. This is not always possible, though.

At a minimum, you do not want the nightstand to block the window so much that it creates a hazard if someone needs to escape through the window in an emergency.

Choosing a nightstand that physically blocks the window can also have a negative impact on the amount of natural light coming into the room.

When placing your nightstand, think about the curtains you plan to hang on the window. It helps if the bottom of the curtains sits below the top of the nightstand. This keeps the curtains tucked behind the nightstand.

    Types of Nightstands

While it may seem like there are countless designs, the majority of nightstands can be placed into three main categories, table, cabinet, and chest. The type you choose will depend on the space available, your budget, storage needs, and interior design theme.

If you decide that you want to have mismatched nightstands, try to stick with one type. This will help them to look coordinated yet different. The key to pulling off an eclectic design is having some similarities between the pieces.

    1. Bedside Table

    Quintero Nightstand

These are the simplest and smallest of the nightstand types. They are similar to end tables with legs that support a tabletop. They are best used with a double and twin beds because of their small size. They may have one or two lower open shelves but no drawers or cabinets.

The table you choose should be big enough to at least hold a table lamp. Otherwise, you will need to have a floor lamp next to it. If you are looking for a modern nightstand, this type is your best option.

The Quintero Nightstand has a statement design with a wood frame wrapped in natural twisted abaca. It has plenty of texture, making it perfect for a coastal, bohemian, or even modern farmhouse bedroom. While its small tabletop and lack of storage make it less functional, it more than makes up for it in design.

This modern Mayville End Table has an open design that makes it perfect for smaller bedrooms. It features a wood tabletop and two mesh shelves that are supported by slim legs. The black frame gives it an industrial or urban feel.

    2. Bedside Chest

    Her Majesty Two-Drawer Blue Nightstand

These nightstands feature drawers that provide you with extra storage space. Typically, they come with either two or three drawers. In addition, they can range in width, making the type versatile for both small and large mattresses. If you choose a wider style, you can have room for more than just a bedside lamp on the tabletop.

The Her Majesty Two-Drawer Blue Nightstand is an elegant blue with hints of grey. The two large drawers and open shelf give you plenty of storage space. The design features subtle detailing, making this nightstand perfect for a contemporary design.

    3. Bedside Cabinet

Eduardt One-Drawer Nightstand in Rustic Oak

These nightstands are similar to the chest, but they have doors instead of drawers. Although, some do have a combination of drawers and doors. The cabinet style is nice if you need a larger amount of storage space or need to store items that do not fit well into drawers. Similar to the chest, they come in a range of sizes from narrow to wide, making them adaptable to the size of your bed and bedroom.

This small Eduardt One-Drawer Nightstand in Rustic Oak is a perfect example of a cabinet nightstand. It features a small drawer with a cabinet underneath. The rustic design makes it the perfect accent for a farmhouse bedroom.
